Crane Berries

Crane Berries by Sharon Boerbon Hanson

I had such a craving for cranberries! September is NOT the month for
that desire. No fresh, no frozen to be had – but Ocean Spray came to the rescue
with whole berry canned. Now I had to get a turkey to go with the berries. A
rolled roast fit the bill for Bobby and me – how much turkey can two people
eat?

Lots is the answer. With a creative twist on the theme. Besides the
first night’s yummy roast turkey, potatoes, gravy and cranberries we enjoyed
the following three dinners. I hope you do, too.

Some cranberry lore: When Dutch settlers first came to
America, they were taken by the resemblance of the pink and white blossom to
the head and bill of cranes. Their word for the fruit, crane-berry gradually
shortened to cranberry.
